Buildings & Finance

Salisbury Diocese Board of Education takes pride in working with schools to provide the best possible teaching and learning environment for all children and young people in our Church Schools.

The Buildings and Finance Team is responsible for supporting Headteachers and Governors of our Voluntary Aided (VA) Schools in maintaining and developing their buildings, working through their appointed diocesan surveyor.   Voluntary Controlled Schools may also seek advice from our experts in partnership with the Local Authority provision.  We also offer advice on any land, property or trust deed matter affecting Diocesan schools, including the purchase or selling of any land or buildings, and we will instruct agents on your behalf.

Our Buildings and Finance Team manage most of our VA schools Devolved Formula Capital (DFC) funds on their behalf, approving projects, paying contractors and making the necessary annual returns to the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).  This enables us to offer schools the option of spending ahead of receiving their next year’s DFC allocation and we also can offer a further loan facility in certain cases.  Our Uniform Statutory Trust fund, built up from the sale of redundant school sites, enables us to offer 3% towards the required 10% statutory contribution which VA school governors have to provide for many building projects.

The Building Services Committee, with four church school Headteachers and three Governors, monitors the work of this team, receiving completed questionnaires from schools, surveyors and builders on each project, and ensuring that a quality service is provided.   We also assist the officers with prioritising the allocation of Locally Coordinated VA Programme (LCVAP) funds for each local authority
