Children's Work

Barbara can offer one-off training events around the diocese, tailoring training to suit your specific needs.

Godly Play and Storybag

These are innovative methods of helping children to engage with the stories of our faith.  They are suited to all ages of children and young people and are especially useful with children of different ages.  We can offer training or support.

Children and Holy Communion

Since 1998 it has been possible for parishes to consider whether they should admit children to Holy Communion before Confirmation, and then apply to the Bishop for permission.  This may be a lengthy consultation but needs to be done in partnership with the Children’s Adviser.  This is an important area of work with PCC's and the local church community.  Contact us if you would like an information pack.

Core Skills

This exciting training scheme seeks to resource all those who work with children in the church, and provides part of the foundational training for children's leaders in the Methodist Church and United Reformed Church.  The material is creative and interactive, making it highly accessible.

  • Programme development
  • Pastoral awareness
  • Child development
  • Spirituality and the Bible

Open the Book

Have you ever thought that children in schools might be missing out on what the bible has to show them?  Your parish could offer Open the Book to your local primary school.  “Open the Book” is a series of 90 Bible stories presented in weekly collective worship over three school years; each lasting about fifteen minutes.  The stories are taken from “The Lion Storyteller Bible” by Bob Hartman and two Storybooks produced especially for the project.  The stories are presented using a variety of storytelling techniques.

Mustard Seeds

This is a newsletter, sent only by email, keeping you up to date with all sorts of things related to children and the church.  There will be information on new publications, events in the diocese and beyond, ideas for activities or teaching for children.  It is user friendly and fun.  Please ask to be added to our mailing list if you are interested: camilla.sheridan@salisbury.anglican.org
